Modena is located between Secchia and Panaro rivers, in the Emilia-Romagna Region and Po Valley, in the North of Italy.
The city dates back to the Bronze Age with the “Civilization of Terramare”. Around 200 B.C., it became an important Roman colony called “Mutina”.
The Cathedral, Ghirlandina Tower and Piazza Grande, masterpieces of Italian Romanesque, were declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
Modena has a famous car industry, counting brands, in the provincial area, as Ferrari, Maserati, Pagani and Lamborghini.
The famous cuisine respects traditions and the conservation of genuine flavor, because of this Modena is the Italian province richer in products with PDO and PGI denomination of origin.
Nowadays Modena counts more than 185.000 inhabitants and the 15,8% are migrants coming from 133 countries.
The City Administration of Modena is member of several EU and international Networks, as the Intercultural Cities Network (ICC), and wants to enhance diversity fighting against racism and discriminations. The City participates also to several EU projects related to different issues and sectors. Among these, the project ITA.C.A (ITAlian Cities Against discrimination), ending at beginning of 2023, has worked to:

• strengthen the role of Cities of the Italian ICC Network in effectively implementing non-discrimination legislation, policies and practices;
• promote structured public-private cooperation in order to increase, among citizens, rights-awareness and knowledge on protection of victims of discrimination;
• promote equal opportunities.

In line with ITA.C.A and ICC values, thanks to MUST-a-Lab, Modena has the aim to involve the young population with a migratory background and the local stakeholders in order to improve the participatory and integration strategies.
