Participation of the Municipality of Livadia in the Ceremony “European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award 2024”

On April 25, 2024, the ceremony of the “European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award” was held in Brussels. The Municipality of Livadia had the honour of being among the six final candidates as a Municipality that implements actions with respect for vulnerable groups and with the aim of promoting a fair and inclusive society.

Promoting equality and diversity is a top priority for the European Commission. In this context, the Awards are conducted for the third time. The opening of the Awards Ceremony was carried out by the Commissioner for Equality Mrs. Hellena Dalli congratulating all the Municipalities of Europe that had been selected as final candidates.

The Municipality of Livadia was distinguished as one of the final candidates among 6 nominations, but in the final stage it did not manage to win an award (you can get detailed information about the winners here). However, it is an honour  for our municipality to be included in the final candidates – next to good examples of European municipalities – which have long-standing experience in managing discriminations and, more generally, vulnerable social groups.

The Mayor of Livadia, Mr. Dimitris K. Karamanis attended the Awards Ceremony on April 25th and he stated that on April 26th, he had the opportunity to communicate good practices of our Municipality -such as the innovative methodology of Policy Labs of the MUST-a-Lab Programme- during the “Good Practice Sharing and Networking Event”. He also discussed with European officials, exchanging views and co-shaping anti-discrimination practices and plans to promote human rights. Finally, Mr. Karamanis emphasized that the participation of our Municipality in such events with a human focus are an excellent opportunity for inspiration and creating synergies with the aim of improving the quality of life of our vulnerable fellow citizens and promoting the positive development of our Municipality.
